Marquis de Lafayette Returns to Kentucky After 200 Years

During the week of May 12th through May 19th, Kentucky was honored by a commemorative visit from the Marquis de Lafayette on the 200th anniversary of his tour through Kentucky in 1825.  Lafayette was the last surviving major military mind of the American Revolution, and in 1824 began a tour of twenty-four states; at this time, the whole of the nation.  He arrived in Kentucky during the month of May 1825, and visited Louisville, Frankfort, Lexington, Georgetown, Maysville, and then went on to other destinations.  This 200th anniversary of this tour was orchestrated in most cases, to the day of the original journey.  Many Kentucky SAR compatriots were able to attend these events and participate in various ways as well.
